Text John 2:5
A Mother's Advice: Just do it!Introduction: Here we have a mother advice not just any mother but Mary the Mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is a piece of Advice that we must not neglect: these words spoken during a crisis at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. But for us in 2006 these words constitute a Command to God’s people for all time. To follow this command given to those servants over 2000 years ago we must have these 3 things in our lives.
1. A Wholehearted Submission “Whatever He says to you do it.”
During this wedding the wine ran out and Mary having some position at the wedding told the servants to obey Jesus command.
a. For us Obedience to an authoritative word calls for Submission.
b. There can be no hesitation or craw fishing or stubbornness when Jesus gives a command. Even when we don’t understand it we must obey Christ.
c. Our answer should be as that old song “I Surrender All”
2. A Wholehearted Sacrifice “ Whatever He says…”
Obedience to Christ Will for our lives might include anything under the sun, any place, any time.
a. Like Isaiah we must answer Lord here am I send me.
b. Where He leads me I will follow
3. A Wholehearted Service “to you do it”
Eph 4:2 say’s we are to equip the Saints for Works of Service. This service that you have been gifted and ordered to do for Christ. It is
rendered properly only thru obedience to Christ Calling.
a. The text requires an action upon instruction.
b. The motivation for the believer is our love for Christ. If you love me you’ll keep my commandments. JN 14:15 and my commandments are not burdensome. 1JN 5:3 So whatever He says unto you JUST DO IT!! Trust and Obey, for there is no way to be Happy in Jesus than to Trust and Obey.
“Just Do It” a simple advertisement campaign (Nike 1988) that has such a theological application. Mary has told us Whatever He says unto you do it. I tell you that if you’re going to be the Christian, Christ wants you to be then you must Just Do It. Obedience to Christ is always our duty, even when we cannot understand the reasons for His command.
Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow;
I’ll go with Him, with Him, all the way.
