In 1987, the First Annual Bivocational Ministers and Spouses Conference was held in Belton at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. This conference came about through the efforts of Claud Slate. At that meeting he was elected President and an informal Association was formed to assure that the State meetings would continue. He was President for 10 years. Claud Slate was a great leader and promoter of bivocational ministry.
Purpose
The Texas Baptist Bivocational Ministers and Spouses Association has established the Claud Slate Memorial Scholarship for the purpose of aiding those called into bivocational ministry to help finance college and or seminary work at a Texas Baptist University or Theological Seminary. The scholarship will be a onetime scholarship and a minimum of $300 per person.
Eligibility
- Must be a Christian and an active member of a Texas Baptist Church.
- Must have a sense of call into bivocational ministry.
- Must be accepted into a Texas Baptist University or Theological Seminary and submit a letter of acceptance from the university or seminary before the final deadline.
- Must provide information related to the call into ministry, school experience and educational desires.
- Must supply recommendations from pastors, teachers, Directors of Missions where applicable as required on the application submitted to the scholarship committee.
- Must be able to attend the Texas Baptist Bivocational Ministers and Spouses Annual Statewide Conference for presentation of the scholarship.
- Must have completed all of the requirements and application must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee before the final deadline. An incomplete application will be ineligible for review.
